FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What kind of massage do you do?
I am trained in several modalities and techniques including Swedish, deep tissue, trigger point, myofascial, facilitated stretching, prenatal, hot stone, neuromuscular, and active movement cupping, and Yomassage. I have a long list of tools and techniques combined with a mind body approach to help you feel your best. At the beginning of each treatment we will chat about how you are feeling and what your goals are for the session.

What is cupping? And what are those marks?
Cupping is an ancient eastern deep tissue technique used to increase circulation and lymph flow in addition to targeting muscle and fascia. They can be used to glide across the tissue or in a stationary position. Cupping marks are due to the very localized increase in circulation. Typically, the darker the cupping mark, the more stagnation in that area. In other words, the tissue was particularly tight.

What clothing do I take off?
That is completely up to you! Regardless of what you choose to leave on or take off, you will always be covered appropriately. Some individuals leave all their clothes on while others take all of them off. Its better to focus on comfort than to be fidgeting with clothing or feeling anxious.

What if I fall asleep?
Sleeping, snoring, and, dare I say, farting are completely normal and a great sign of relaxation.

What if I can't make it to my appointment?
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please reach out via email or text at least 48 hours prior to your appointment. I understand that life can get a little hectic sometimes, but please give as much notice as possible so I can fill the space.
I charge 100% for no show appointments and cancellations within 24 hours. Similar to giving a friend tickets to a concert you are unable to attend, you are more than welcome to send someone else in your place if you are unable to make it to your appointment. Please call, text, or email if you plan to do so though.

Will you work with my chiropractor, physical therapist, or physician?
Definitely! I am always willing to communicate and work with other professionals on your health and wellness team. We simply fill out a release of information so we can communicate.

Do you bill insurance?
Unfortunately, no. However, I can provide treatment receipts for those wanting to be reimbursed by an insurance provider. It's always great to check with your health insurance provider and physician to see if massage therapy can be covered by your regular plan or with a flex account.

Is my information HIPAA compliant?
Yes, I use Vagaro for all of my client information, SOAP notes, scheduling, and credit card processing. Vagaro became HIPAA compliant in 2020 and I maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Why do you ask so many personal health questions?
Massage therapy can have a profound impact on the body and there are certain health conditions and medications that make some modalities and techniques unsafe. By getting an honest picture of your health, your massage therapist will be able to give you a helpful and safe massage.

What if the therapist is not giving the right amount of pressure, is working in an area of discomfort, or I need the room temperature changed?
Always speak up if the pressure is too much, not enough, or it just doesn’t feel right. And, that pressure/temperature/area of work can be great one appointment and not so great the next appointment – always speak up if you need a change.
